Pumping Rate Methods

Purpose:

To demonstrate a simple, economic method to determine pumping rates of various floating fountain designs. Following are the two methods that will be demonstrated:

1. Evacuation Method
2. Transfer Method

Both methods were evaluated by GSEE Environmental Consultants, a certified test lab located in Lavergne, TN. Tests were witnessed and data was taken Gerry Shell, PE. The accuracy of either test method is +/- 5% or less.

Equipment Used:

• Direct reading volt, amperage and power meter (KW)
• Centrifugal Pump
      1. 3HP, 250 GPM – Method #2
      2. 7.5HP, 650 GPM – Method #1
• Water Tanks (used for both test methods)
      1. Fiberglass Tank - 9’ diameter x 5’ high
            • 2300 gallon capacity with a volume of 39.9 gallons per inch
      2. Poly Tank - 7’ diameter x 5’ high
            • 1500 gallon capacity with a volume of 25.6 gallons per inch
• Direct reading flow meter calibrated to pump discharge pipe size
