Equipment Recommended Minimum Safety Guidelines

 

  1. All units sold domestically shall be listed by an approved National Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL), such as U.L., E.T.L., C.S.A, and MET, or shall have a current and valid NRTL project number. Other comparable testing bodied will be considered by the AFCIG Standards Committee.
  2. All units shall be listed as a complete package which includes the power unit, cable and control package. Component approvals alone are not acceptable.
  3. Until such time that a specific U.L., E.T.L. or N.E.C. category for floating fountains or water aerators has been created, units manufactured and offered for sale should at minimum comply with U.L. 778.
  4. Until such time that a specific U.L., E.T.L. or N.E.C. category for floating fountains or water aerators has been created, units manufactured and offered for sale shall at a minimum include, as standard, a GFI protection device in compliance with U.L. 778.
  5. Until such time that a specific U.L., E.T.L. or N.E.C. category for floating fountains or water aerators has been created, units manufactured and offered for sale shall at a minimum include, as standard, underwater electrical cable that meets or exceeds the requirements as specified in U.L. 77.
  6. Unless a unit is being sold as a replacement for an existing unit which already has an appropriate U.L. or E.T.L. control panel, all units sold shall include, as standard, a control panel which meets the requirements of U.L. 778 or U.L. 508.
  7. Until such time that a specific U.L., E.T.L. or N.E.C. category for floating fountains or water aerators has been created, units manufactured and offered for sale will include, as standard, protection from direct access to moving parts.
  8. Until such time that a specific U.L., E.T.L. or N.E.C. category for floating fountains or water aerators has been created, units manufactured and offered for sale will include installation and instruction manuals for the installer and the owner which meet the requirements of U.L.778.
  9. All units offered for sale shall be equipped with a power disconnect switch or another means of turning off all power and locking it off during installation, service or inspection.
  10. Any splices made to underwater cable shall meet the requirements of the N.E.C. and use only listed splices or kits for this purpose.
